Where to post design links?
Where to post my design related links is a question that any new blogger / publisher who wants to build traffic for his website asks himself. There are many lists of websites circling the web that pile up links to websites that are publishing user submitted links and/or news. But how many of these do actually work and by work i mean do they generate traffic for your website. There are many factors we need to take into consideration here. The most important is where on this website is the user submitted content displayed. Is this a website hosting only user submitted content that displays it on the front page or some blog that features 5 user submited links on the bottom of the sidebar. Most of the sites moderate user submitted content which means your submission will take a while to get processed if ever at all. We also must take into consideration the factor of back-links generated for your site, which is paramount for ranking higher in search engines. If your link is displayed only for few hours and then lost in some blog database don’t waste your time by submitting anything because it’s just not worth it.
I have tested submitting links to some 40 websites that provide this service. I have not used any of the social websites like Stumbleupon, Del.icio.us, Digg, etc. in this test becouse social websites operate on different principles and wouldn’t provide relevant data, but this is another story altogether. I have submitted 6 different links to posts on this blog on all these websites getting varying results in getting actually published. I guess different websites have different criteria on what they will release through the moderation queue. Below is the list of sites that generated most traffic to my blog enriched with some relevant data and a list of some that in my opinion are a waste of time if u want to submit links to your website.
